Rockmite][ 15m Transceiver KitPrice: $55.00 |
QRPme is excited to continue the legacy of Dave Benson, K1SWL, nifty Rock-Mite QRP transceiver kits.
I have just upgraded the kit to include ALL the mechanical components that are required to put it into an enclosure or your choice. This means that orders after 10/12/2014 no longer need to purchase the Rockmite Accessory Kit to get the parts necessary for the keyer SPEED, audio VOLUME and power mods (50K & 1M pots, on/off switch and LED and resistors)
The Small Wonder Labs Rock-Mite design grew out of K1SWLs desire to offer a one-evening CW transceiver kit which would be both affordable and easy to construct. It first appeared at Lobstercon2002! - a QRP gathering on the Maine coast- in early July, 2002. It was provided to all attendees courtesy of Small Wonder Labs and the NorCal QRP club. It appeared in QST magazine in 2003, and since then, it has been wildly successful. 10,000+ of these kits have been fielded so far!
Dave has retired from QRP kitting and has allowed QRPme to carry on the legacy of the Rock-Mite. QRPme has updated the design by revamping the circuitry and circuit board thereby bringing the design up to current FCC requirements for harmonic suppression. The QRPme Rockmite ][ is a crystal-controlled direct-conversion transceiver available for 80M, 40M, 30M or 20M. It features an on-board 8-pin PIC microcontroller which controls the T-R offset on key-down. A brief tap of a push-button control switch reverses the offset to yield a second operating frequency. Pushing and holding on the push-button activates the speed adjustment routine for the built-in Iambic keyer. If you would rather use an external keyer or straight key, there is a drop-through mode which allows use of an external keying source.
You will note in the image above that the Rockmite ][ uses two crystals. The first is used in the local oscillator for the transmitter and receiver. The second is used as a receiver front-end filter. This crystal significantly reduces the SWBC energy present at the receiver mixer; as a result, unwanted SWBC reception is dramatically reduced.
The QRPme Rockmite ][ also replaced the surface-mount 612 mixer on the SWL original Rock-Mite design with a DIP part making it even easier to build. There are no toroids to wind, so assembly should be a snap! The Rockmite ][ uses sub-miniature epoxy-encapsulated RF chokes instead of toroids.
